Arrived in Dusseldorf late afternoon, the destination chosen for its offer of a place to stay and the chance to see another German city.
If you were to wikipedia Dusseldorf, you'd quickly learn that it's the fashion capital, swanky, bourgeois, etc. Indeed, it is home to 'Konigsallee' literally translating to 'king's street' - your typical 5th ave shopping street.
You'll probably also find out that it redeems itself for this with its position on the Rhine river (perfect for a beer and early evening nap) and cool pubs lining the streets.
What you might not read, is that this somehow attracts a multitude of 'stag' and 'doe' pre-nuptial shinanigans. So amidst the bourgeois, one can sneak a peak of 10 or so young men & women drunkenly parading the streets in matching uniform, occasionally with their stag or doe in more ridiculous costume. We saw at least 10 different groups...pretty hilarious contrast.
But we did check out some bars to test out two major types of beer, in small 200mL glasses, which will continue to get replaced with full ones as they are finished, unless you specifically indicate for this not to happen. The lighter beer, from Cologne, goes down smoother than any beer I've had - I imagine if you're accustomed it must be arbitrarily close to water. The local Dusseldorf beer is darker, stronger, and just not as smooth. But if you wash it down with a shot of local shnops, you're sure not to really find that it's a problem ;)
Highlights of my < 12 waking hours in Dusseldorf include a 40 inch sausage, which I finished but Max could not and a nap by the river as the sun set in the background, because the beer finished me and I could not...
